My Friend Jill from Great American Title sent this over. Last week Realtors from across the country gathered in DC to learn about the economic benefits/impact of walkable urban communities. Here is an excerpt from the article
“Creating walkability with restaurants and stores can help transition an edgy part of town into one that is hip and hopping with pedestrians,” said National Association of Realtors® Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. “This type of real estate development transforms the community for the better.”
Not sure about the “hip and hopping” part, but the message is very clear: along with the pure convenience of urban living there is also a considerable economic impact on the community when residents are spending their money where they live.
